2008 North American Championships were hosted by the Minnetonka Yacht Club on spectacular Lake Minnetonka.

It's a close match on a perfect day!

The Minnetonka Yngling fleet sails on Lake Minnetonka, about 20 miles west of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We have a great social events calendar, and a very competitive fleet. During the 2008 season 10 different teams scored a first place finish. We presently have 25 boats registered and typically field 10 to 15 at the start line.

Our season runs from mid-May to mid-September, and later with th eMaeday Trophy being awarded to the winner of the last race of the season.

The Olympic Class Yngling has all the go-fast and technical apparatus to challenge the serious sailor, which helped it become named the Olympic Class for 3 women starting with the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Sally Barkow's team narrowly missed medalling in China in 2008.

Youth and especially female athletes are welcome and will receive some financial assistance to start sailing the Yngling-- the only fleet in these parts that can take women sailors all the way to the Olympics.

At the same time, the boat is also very beginner friendly, and a great training boat with a small sail plan and manageable spinnaker. Our fleet has sailors of all experience and skill levels. You will frequently see a family including young children at the start line-- and finish line too!

We welcome new additions to our fleet, and you will find the "old timers" are more than willing to share their knowledge and successes.

We are excited about the 2008 Olympics and the huge amount of publicity being brought to our little boat after the exposure at Athens!

We have witnessed sail and tuning developments because of the talent (and budgets) of the Olympians to enhance the sailing experience for all of us!
